GIS Solutions
GISolutions, L.L.C. provides Geographic Information System data to it's clients via the use of products created by the ESRI corporation. This data is used by utility districts, municipalities, cities, communities and home builders to provide a clear picture of the infrastructure of a geographical area and simplifies the making of decisions based on current factual data.
Business Problem:
The data and software provided by GISolutions, L.L.C. was being maintained by technicians within the company in a manual process requiring frequent onsite technician visits and weekly remote access to the client workstations to update the databases to current versions. This resulted in increased workload and overhead for GISolutions as well as occasional data loss on client workstations.
Hardware and Software used in the project:
- Dell PowerEdgeT605
- VMWare ESX 3.5 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
- Citrix Access Essentials 2.0
Project Details:
ITSourcePro built a Virtual Server on VMWare ESX 3.5 Server, an industry standard virtualization platform. Citrix Access Essentials was installed on the Virtual Server. This was used to publish the application and database via standard web browsers already installed on GISolutions' Clients workstations.
Key Results:
- The Application and Database provided by GISolutions is installed only on the Virtual Server so any updates to the application and databases need only be done once
- The clients can access the application via any workstation with a web browser and require no special software to be installed or maintained.
Business Impact:
The solution provided by ITSourcePro dramatically reduced the workload required to manage the software while also presenting a package which is more attractive to end users. This resulted in increased sales and higher profit margins.
Applied Health Care Nursing Division
Applied Health Care Nursing Division is a leading provider of home health care services in the Houston, TX area.
Business Problem:
Applied Health Care Nursing Division needed to modernize their existing network infrastructure. They had experienced numerous outages with their DSL internet connection which caused lost productivity as a major LOB application was web based. They wanted to provide remote access capabilities to their management staff as well as bring their mail hosting in house.
Hardware and Software used in the project:
- Dell Poweredge 840
- Microsoft Small Business Server 2008
- VMWare Server 2.0
Project Details:
ITSourcePro built a Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 network to replace the existing Windows 2000 network. The DSL internet connection was replaced by a T1 provided by Logix Communication. VMWare Server 2.0 was installed on the SBS 2008 server and used to virtualize the original server so as to provide for a legacy LOB application which would have been incompatible with SBS 2008.
Key Results:
- The old unreliable server was replaced with a modern Dell Poweredge 840 Server.
- SBS 2008 replaced the Windows 2000 Network.
- SBS 2008 provides Exchange 2007 for in house email.
- SBS 2008 provides Remote Web Workplace which allows management staff to log in to mail and connect to their desktops remotely.
- The T1 installed by Logix Communication provides a reliable and fast internet connection.
- The T1 installed by Logix Communication also allowed Applied Health Care Nursing to replace their existing phone lines. This resulted in substantial savings.
